Great British Food for Students

How to enjoy | survive British Food | Guide and Tips

Curry

Curry is a staple and traditional diet in the UK. If you like you can try other more authentic stuff like black pudding (well it's actually Irish !). It's very important to understand that depending on how far you are willing to travel you can find any ethnic food in the UK !. So when I assumed that it was my last rice and curry when I left home, I was completely wrong !.

More about Curry and Take aways

In the UK they are called curry hoses. Most of them are called Indian curry houses (or pretend to sell Indian curries) but majority of them are of Bengali origin.  Learning to cook is a great money saver, if you are like me, I couldn't boil an egg !. As takeaways are fairly expensive on a student budget cooking can  save a lot of money.  Still if you like eating out curry would be the cheapest. Once you are here, it's a good idea to invest in a Rice cooker.

Life cycle of finding the best curry house

I took a long time and a lot of money to find an authentic curry house. Started with typical Bengali food, then after about 6 years, accidentally I managed to find an authentic pure Indian curry house. So it's all trial and error , more art than science. The positive thing is you get to eat a lot and a lot of things. By the way sandwiches are very nice in the UK.
